First Lady Inaugurates the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Branch in Sulaimani

First Lady, Dr. Sarbag Salih inaugurated the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) branch in the province of Sulaimani on Wednesday May 15, 2019.
In her speech at the opening ceremony, Dr. Sarbag Salih said that since the Organization’s founding in 1945, (FAO) has played a leading and effective role in combating famine and securing food in the world. 
The First Lady referred that the inauguration of the Organization's branch in the province of Sulaimani is an evidence of the FAO’s efforts to develop and modernize the agriculture sector in the Kurdistan region and Iraq in general. 
Dr. Sarbag Salih indicated the importance of the initiation of the project of establishing Genebank in the Region to preserve the natural resources that could be utilized and developed.  
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the representative of FAO in Iraq presented the shield of the Organization to First Lady Dr. Sarbag Salih in recognition of her role in the development and revitalization of the agriculture sector in Iraq and Kurdistan region.
The Governor of Sulaimani Dr. Hafal Abu Bakr, the Head of the Provincial Council Azad Mohammed Amin, the FAO Representative in Iraq René Verduijn, the UN Deputy Special Representative for Iraq Marta Ruedas, and the Director General of Sulaimani's Department of Agriculture Shallaw Jamal, attended the ceremony.
