US Deputy Secretary of State Conveys US President's Congratulations to President Barham Salih

H.E. Dr. Barham Salih the President of the Republic received Mr. John Sullivan the US Deputy Secretary of State alongside Mr. Douglas Silliman the US Ambassador to Iraq, at the Presidential Office in Baghdad, this afternoon, Sunday October 14, 2018.
At the onset of the meeting, Mr. Sullivan congratulated President Barham Salih on assuming his post as President of the Republic and conveyed greetings and congratulations of President Donald Trump and the Secretary of State Mr. Pompeo.
President Barham Salih emphasized the importance of the friendly relations between Iraq and the United States of America, stressing on the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries and developing relations between them, notably the strategic framework agreement.
The President thanked the United States and the International Coalition in supporting Iraq in the fight against terrorism. His Excellency also stressed on the need to spare Iraq from the burden and the consequences of the international policy and regional tensions, taking into account the location and the situation of Iraq, and an emphasis made on its sovereignty and its national interest in establishing stability, thus to contribute to the reconstruction and the development of infrastructure for areas affected by terrorism.
For his part, Mr. Sullivan the US Deputy Secretary of State reiterated his country's support for Iraq in various fields, stressing his country's keenness to develop its relations with Iraq and enhance joint cooperation, notably in the economic fields and encourage investment. He expressed his country's readiness to encourage investors to invest in Iraq in support of its economic stability and to benefit from investment opportunities in the country.
