The President of the Republic Visits Halabja

H.E. Dr. Barham Salih the President of the Republic visited Halabja Province, accompanied by Mr. Qubad Talabani Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, this morning, Sunday, October 28, 2018. 
The President was received by the members of the provincial council in the city and a crowd of dignitaries and personalities of the city.
A comprehensive governmental and popular reception ceremony was held for His Excellency. President Salih visited the monument to the martyrs of Halabja, and inspected the exhibitions of the victims of the barbaric dictatorship.
After that, His Excellency visited the cemetery of the martyrs of Halabja and laid a wreath of flowers and read the Surat Al-Fatihah on the lives of the martyrs.
The President also held a meeting with Mr. Azad Tawfiq the Governor of Halabja, members of the provincial council, administrative officials, Sheikhs of clans, religious scholars, and families of the martyrs.
At the onset of the meeting, His Excellency expressed his pleasure to visit the city, indicating what it has been subjected to a campaign of genocide and what the people of Halabja have suffered from the brutal crime where chemical weapons were used and claimed the lives of thousands of people. His Excellency clarified that this city has become a symbol of fighting the dictatorship, so Halabja must be a city of peace.
President Salih listened to the concerns, demands, and complaints of the people of the city, stressing his pursue to resolve them and instruct the relevant authorities to provide all the legitimate requirements for decent living for the people of Halabja, and for the families of the martyrs and those affected, pointing out that the city has become a symbol of fighting the dictatorship for what it has offered of great sacrifices. 
His Excellency clarified the importance of coordination with the Federal Government to provide financial allocations necessary to implement service projects in Halabja, and indicated the need to restructure the infrastructure and activate investment and tourism in Kurdistan.
